For the new flagship store, Kyoto Gion Kayanoya, where visitors can experience Japan’s dashi culture through all five senses, we were responsible for the merchandising display planning (MDP) as well as the design and production of display fixtures and tools, primarily for the first-floor sales area. To enhance the appeal of the products themselves, the PP fixtures were designed with generous spacing, allowing a wide range of products to be displayed beautifully while maintaining a sense of openness and ensuring operational efficiency. The IP fixtures were developed with a strong focus on usability, with careful attention paid to every detail. The overall design concept was based on the themes of “Intersection” and “Circle.” Inspired by the architectural characteristics of traditional Kyoto townhouses, the fixtures incorporate elements such as Japanese cypress, latticework, and a distinctive tile-inspired finish. The textured, roof-tile-like coating was achieved through the craftsmanship of our in-house finishing specialists. By combining locally inspired materials with an assembled structural design, we created a space rich in depth, shadow, and visual transparency. The result is an environment that reflects both the brand’s identity and the unique aesthetic sensibilities of Kyoto.
